Batwoman Episode Guide: Season 3, Episode 4 - Antifreeze

For a summary of the episode guide layout & categories, click here.

Plot

When Ryan is named to Gotham City's "30 Under 30" list, Luke worries that Marquis Jet's efforts to form an alliance with Ryan will bring Jada Jet's wrath down on Wayne Enterprises. Meanwhile, Alice's hallucinations grow stronger, Mary feels unlike herself and Sophie's sister Jordan goes missing after an incident which suggests more of Mr. Freeze's technology is still on the street.

Influences

The Batman comics of Grant Morrison (Black Glove Society)

Bat Trivia

Mention is made of a made-up Batman villain called Icarus who had "Zero-G" sneakers. This gimmick sounds like the Air-Walker shoes employed by The Trickster in the comics.

First appearing in Batman #667 in August 2007, the Black Glove Society were created by Grant Morrison and Tony S. Daniel. Apparently a secret society of wealthy elites who just throw wild parties, the true organization was made up of sinister people who staged a yearly contest to play out some epic battle of good and evil. In this case, they tried to manipulate Batman.

Interestingly, one of the members of the Black Glove Society was a woman named Jezebel Jet who was briefly a love interest of Bruce Wayne. It seems likely that Jada Jet is meant to be an Arrowverse adaptation of the character.

Technobabble

Mary says that the formula used to freeze Jordan is based on the catalytic mechanism of Victor Fries' research, but what used to happen inside a chamber is now happening inside Jordan's cells. The effect on organic tissue is like the process that petrifies wood.

The GCPD are said to have thermal cameras all around Gotham City. Luke uses this knowledge to find an unusually hot room for thawing out one of the other Black Glove victims.

Mary notes that plants evolved to survive winter by synthesizing a type of antifreeze in their vascular tissue to thaw from the inside outward.

The Lucius Fox AI was not designed to run independent of the Batwing suit failsafe and has no purpose beyond acting in Like's best interest In this case, it determined Luke was not ready to wear the suit yet, which was why it shut down..

Dialogue Triumphs

(Alice is surrounded by Black Glove Society members, including the man in the suit.)
Alice:
Just taking a shot here... are you make-believe?

Luke: So, what? So, even though nobody thinks that you'll win, you're just gonna... stay and fight?
Ryan: Have you met me?

Continuity

In the opening scene, a man is shown conducting experiments on various figured frozen with Mr. Freeze's cryo-formula and thawed out. One of these subjects cracks when asked to leave the room. The man calls this experiment a failure and notes they have 24 hours until the client's deadline.

Mary is shown on a park bench with vines crawling over her.

Marquis got Ryan onto a prominent "30 Under 30" list.

Charlie Clarke is the head of Public Relations for Wayne Enterprises and has been there since Lucius Fox's day.

Sophie's sister Jordan is also on the 30 Under 30 list because of her work with the local community center.

Mary tries to tell Ryan and Luke about waking up on the bench, but they both blow her off.

Alice is still imagining spiders crawling inside her because of the nanite trackers.

Alice hallucinates more mail from her father and killing the orderly who brought the messages to her.

Charlie says that he had to bribe Bruce Wayne to get him to memorize his talking points.

Ryan remembers that Wanye Enterprises is set to make its biggest quarterly venue gains in six years.

Marquis makes a big deal about getting his picture with Ryan at the event.

Sophie tells Jordan that she had a dream about Ryan bringing her soul while she was in bed.

Sophie is 31 years old. She is also apparently still unemployed.

Jordan says that Sophie should ask Ryan out.

Jordan is abducted by the man from the opening scene.

Jada calls Vesper Fairchild to report a rumor.

Alice is dropped off at Mary's clinic.

Alice admits that she got Montoya to let her out of Arkham because she said she had a lead on the "Zero-G" sneakers of the Batman villain Icarus. Alice completely made this villain up.

Mary refers to Alice's faked cold from 303.

Sophie asks Ryan and Marquis to help her find Jordan, who has gone missing.

Luke is trying to reset the AI in his Batwing suit, but it hasn't worked since he shut down the fail safe.

Marquis gets a tip that Jordan was taken to Room 1620 of the hotel the 30 Under 30 event is at.

Ryan finds Jordan, frozen solid by Mr. Freeze's equipment without a cryochamber.

Ryan tells Sophie about how the last person they tried to reheat and how they aged at 4 times the normal rate.

Alice recognized Jordan's kidnappers as The Black Glove Society - a group of rich elites that supposedly rule Gotham City from the shadows who are also looking into a way to live forever.

Sophie says that Jordan and her activist friends were working to expose the Black Glove Society and she was going to use her speech at the 30 Under 30 event to do that.

Mary says she can save Jordan if she can get a clean sample of Fries' formula.

Marquis becomes angry with Ryan after she questions how he knew what room she'd be in.

Vesper Fairchild reports that the CEO of Wayne Enterprises has been diverting millions of dollars into a secret personal account.

Charlie reports that Wayne Enterprises stock has gone down 47$ in the past hour and the CFO is conducting a full audit into the company's finances.

Ryan offers to resign, but Charlie says this is the sort of thing that gets people arrested, not fired.

Luke determines that Jada didn't fake the numbers that were given to Vesper Fairchild - she somehow uncovered the secret budget used to pay for Batman's technology.

Alice hallucinates the orderly talking to her again while searching Jordan's apartment with Sophie.

Alice finds Jordan's hidden notes on the Black Glove Society, which connect them to Jeturian Industries.

Sophie and Alice get knocked out by the Black Glove Society thugs.

A sign once again show's that Mary's clinic is on Bennett Avenue.

Batwoman saves Sophie and Alice from being burned up along with Jordan's apartment.

Mary thaws Jordan out safely.

Alice tells the rest of the team about her hallucinations and how they are getting worse.

Mary says the quality of care at Arkham is so crappy that they could well be giving her medication that causes a psychotic break rather than actually helping Alice.

Sophie agrees to let Alice move in with her and Mary agrees to takeover making sure Alice is getting the proper medication.

Charlie Clarke says he knows Ryan didn't steal from the company because she hasn't been CEO long enough to steal a stapler, let alone set up a fund to steal $30 million.

Clarke says that he was used to having to cover up similar scandals thanks to Bruce Wayne's public record of addiction, misbehaviors and mysterious disappearances.

Clarke comes up with a press release which says that the missing money was part of a top secret defense contract with ARGUS which Ryan mistakenly thought needed to be kept secret from the Board of Directors due to national security reasons.

Luke makes reference to an old friend at ARGUS who will help to sell the story that the misappropriated funds were part of a secret ARGUS contract. This is likely a reference to John Diggle, whom Luke befriended in 216.

Clarke suggests Ryan resign since the stock price is still falling because someone is manipulating the press against her. He fears they will lose control of Wayne Enterprises in a hostile takeover if Ryan stays.

Luke is fearful of losing the company after all his dad did to build it up.

Ryan reactivates the fail-safe and this reawakens the Lucius Fox AI.

The AI says that helping run Wayne Enterprises is beyond the scope of his programming.

Ryan reaches out to Marquis, but he shuts down any attempt to work with her against Jada.

Jada meets with the Black Glove society and it is confirmed that she had commissioned them to come up with a way to safely freeze and unfreeze a person using Victor Fries' science.

Jada says that Marquis is about to take a leave of absence.

The Fridge Factor

Alice and Sophie get easily knocked out by the Black Glove Society thugs. As Sophie notes, this only happened because Alice thought they were a hallucination at first.

The Bottom Line

Oddly uninteresting. Too much of the episode shifts focus away from the established characters and their subplots to focus upon the high-finance, public drama of Ryan's ascension which seems rushed given that we just found out Ryan became CEO last week. Unfortunately, this isn't nearly as interesting as Luke's issues with his dad, Alice's hallucinations or even Sophie's relationship with her sister. It doesn't help matters that the show is utilizing the Black Glove Society which, while coming first, seems like a half-hearted rip-off of the similar and better-known Court of Owls.

Legends of Tomorrow: Season 7, Episode 4 - Speakeasy Does It

For a summary of the episode guide layout & categories, click here.

Plot

The Legends arrive in Chicago and come across a speakeasy. Naturally, being the Legends, they accidentally cause the place to get smashed up. This leads Zari to set up a party, with a special performance by the Bullet Blondes, to raise the money to rebuild it. Coincidentally, Astra, Spooner and Gideon also arrive in Chicago, but find themselves tasked with helping a female musician free herself from her mobster boyfriend.

Influences

The musical Chicago and gangster movies in general.

Goofs

The sign on the door of the Chapeaux places the events of this episode as occurring sometime during between the 3rd and the 9th of a month where Monday fell on the 24th. This suggests this episode takes place in early August 1925, which matches the suggestion that the events of 701 took place on July 9th. However, this still wildly conflicts with Gideon's claim that November 7th was two weeks away in 702.

Performances

Caity Lotz is a well known dancer, but Jes Macallan does a fine job keeping up with her in the Bullet Blonde's burlesque number.

Artistry

The musical numbers in this episode are amazing and the editing between Gideon's singing, Sara and Ava's dance and the fight scenes is flawless.

Technobabble/Arcana

Astra magically changes the Masquardies train tickets into first class tickets.

Dialogue Triumphs

Susie: Men don't look out, they look at, if you know what I mean.
Gideon: You're referring to the rampant commodification of females by males that is a societal norm of this decade.
(There's an awkward silence, but Susie smiles.)
Susie: You talk funny. I like it.

Zari: Aves, we can't keep leaving the timeline worse than we found it. This place is one of the few safe spaces that exist in this entire crummy time period. I'm not gonna be able to sleep knowing we had a hand in destroying it, are you?

Zari: Gary, I need you to make sure the silks are secure. We can't have it falling down during the big show, yeah?
Gary: Absolutely, Zari. And can I just say, I think you're doing a fantastic job leading us on this mission.
Zari: I know.
(Zari walks off. Nate observes this exchange and walks over to Gary.)
Nate: It's pathological with you, isn't it?
Gary: What are you talking about?
Nate: You have a crush on Zari.
Gary: What, no!
Nate: Gary. You know what's happening here. It's not a real crush. Zari's triggering your attraction to powerful people. Think about it, Kayla, Ava, John...
Gary: Shh! She might hear you.
Nate: You get off being bossed around, you little sicko.
Gary: You're just figuring this out now?
Nate: Gary, don't you want to be with someone who respects you for the alien you are?
Gary: No, not really.
Nate: I'm worried about you, Gare.
Gary: I'm worried about you, too, but I don't go around shaming your pathology, do I?
Nate: My pathology? What pathology?
Gary: That you find yourself in these relationships that can't go anywhere. So you don't have to put yourself in the vulnerable position of really giving yourself to another person because you have the excuse of timelines or totems holding you back.
Nate: What?!

(Sara and Ava end their dance routine by kissing passionately. The crowd is stunned.)
Sara: We're not sisters.
(The crowd suddenly starts cheering and applauding.)

Continuity

Gary's generous tipping winds up nearly bankrupting the Legends, leaving them with $35. By Ava's estimate, that's barely enough for one person to take the train from Chicago to New York City, allowing for meals.

Zari, Ava and Sara go into a ladies' wig shop to find a disguise. The clerk ignores Zari completely.

Ava and Sara retrieve a brunette and redhead wig respectively. However, they're forced to pay triple the wholesale rate when the clerk recognizes them as the Bullet Blondes.

While trying to find a door to use the mansion key, the Legends stumble across a speakeasy called The Sapphire String. It is run by a Black man named Eddie and the password to get in is "password."

Nate notes that most speakeasies were segregated, but the Sapphire String caters to everyone.

Behrad joins the house band in a jam session after being loaned a guitar.

Astra, Spooner and Gideon sneak onto a train heading to Chicago. They are almost kicked off, but they are saved by a woman named Maude Beaumont, who lies and says they are with her band, after name-dropping her boyfriend - a notorious gangster named Ross Bottoni.

The news reports in Chicago confirm that there is a new robot posing as J. Edgar Hoover and he is said to be chasing after Al Capone and the Bullet Blondes.

The news also reports that the Bullet Blondes are sisters and have had bootlegging added to their list of crimes after showing up at a crime scene with whiskey in 702

Sara has the idea to offer the infinite whiskey in the mansion dimension to Eddie in exchange for access to his store room for a night, 20% of the night's take in cash and no questions asked.

Maude's all-woman band is called The Masquardies. They wear fancy masks when they perform.

One of the other women in the Masquardies is named Susie Spencer. Gideo reveals that she marries a man named Colin Baker, retires to Florida and dies peacefully in her sleep.

Astra lies and says that Gideon is a singer known as the Lark of London, Spooner is her voice coach and that she is her manager. This gets Susie and Maude's attention as women don't typically work as managers in the American theater. (They presume this is how things are done in London.)

Astra offers to look at the contract of the Masquardies' manager, who is described as a glorified bodyguard named Donny.

Eddie notices Zari's smart phone when she uses it as a make-up mirror, but thinks it is an exotic compact.

Eddie knows how to say cheers in several languages and makes Zari a soda water with lemon when she says she doesn't drink.

Astra confronts Donny on his contract and how he's getting 60% of what the Maskeradies make and yet he isn't paying for them to get first class train tickets.

Astra claims to have learned how entertainment contracts work from Phil Spector - an infamous music producer who murdered actress Lana Clarkson.

Maude fires Donny.

It is revealed that Ross Bottoni was renting the Sapphire String to Eddie with the understanding that he'd only buy liquor from him. This leads Bottoni and his men to smash up the bar after the Legends leave.

Zari insists they have to help Eddie after they find him beaten half to death and Ava agrees to let her take charge for a few hours.

Zari suggests turning the mansion into a speakeasy for a few hours

Gary seems to develop a crush on Zari, due to her commanding personality when she's planning a party.

Maude gets a telegram telling her that her boyfriend just got her a new club to play in.

Maude persuades Spooner, Astra and Gideon come and see her perform since their train to New York City won't leave until 8 AM the next day.

Zari hits on the idea of having the Bullet Blondes perform to get people into the one-night-only speakeasy.

The password to get into the speakeasy is Rutabaga.

Ross Bottoni is not pleased when he finds out Donny was fired and tells Maude that he will decide who manages her. He also tells her that a Mr. Williams from RCA will be watching the show that night.

Astra recognizes Ross from her time in Hell. She recalls that his worst fear was being covered with 1000 tiny spiders.

Astra becomes determined to save Maude after Gideon reveals that Maude's body will be found floating in the Chicago River on December 18, 1925.

Nate confronts Gary over his crush on Zari and notes that he seems to get off on being bossed around.

Gary says that he's well aware of that and confronts Nate on his tendency to get into relationships that can't go anywhere so he doesn't have to truly become vulnerable with another person.

Astra encourages Maude to run off where Ross can't find her.

Gideon takes Maude's place on stage.

The Hoover robot infiltrates the speakeasy, but Sara and Ava are able to tie him up while making it part of their dance act.

Astra and Spooner are able to pacify Ross Bottoni by playing on his fear.

Astra, Spooner and Gideon hear about the Bullet Blonde's show at the Chapeaux and rush to catch the rest of the Legends.

Nate admits he does need to talk to Zari 1.0 about their relationship. Gary says he'll be there if Nate needs to talk after.

Astra, Spooner and Gideon miss the Legends, but find Zari's cel phone.

The Legends make the train to New York City, with Gary guarding the key as the rest of the Legends hide in the mansion dimension.

Zari 2.0 switches places with Zari 1.0.

Location

Chicago - 1925

The Bottom Line

A funny, jazzy episode that could be a contender for one of the 10 best Legends adventures ever.

Supergirl Episode Guide: Season 6, Episode 18 - Truth or Consequences

For a summary of the episode guide layout & categories, click here.

Plot

With Lex and Nyxyly joining forces, Kara is more determined than ever to protect her friends and doubles down on patrolling National City so that Alex and Kelly can enjoy their engagement party, though Alex still feels torn between her duty as a hero and her new family. Meanwhile, as Brainy receives some heart-breaking news, William clashes with Andrea over her newfound efforts to brand Lex Luthor as a criminal in the press without any real evidence.

Influences

Marvel's Infinity War (the hunt for the Totems mirrors the search for the Infinity Stones, Nxyly now has a gauntlet to hold the totems)

Goofs

While William gets some amazing moments here giving Andrea the dressing down she's needed to get for the better part of two seasons, I can't help but feel this should have been Kara's speech to give instead of his and that she should have been the one standing up for Truth and Journalism.

The CGI of the Super Friends falling through the Dream Realm looks cheap.

Performances

It has to be said that Staz Nair shines in this episode. It makes you wish the writers had given us THIS version of William before now.

Again, the interactions between Peta Sergeant and Jon Cryer as Nyxly and Lex are the best part of the episode.

Artistry

Most of the effects work during the fight scenes is good.

Super Trivia

At one point a reporter refers to Lex Luthor as "The Man of Tomorrow." This is a title that is more often applied to Superman in the comics, but which Lex has just as often applied to himself.

Technobabble

Lena says that she can create a data interception program that can track Lex through his Lexosuits.

Lex modifies Nyxly's new Lexosuit by planting the Hope Totem in the left arm cannon and the Truth Totem in the chest plate.

Lex uses 31st century nanobots to take apart Supergirl's armored suit.

Dialogue Triumphs

(Lex has just seen the news report about his love poems for Nyxly.)
Lex:
I'll nail gun their drivel-spouting tongues to their pinheads.
Nyxly: (laughing) Looks like someone should have hidden his diary a little better. What is it they called you? The Man of Tomorrow? Quite a lofty title. Did you give yourself that name?
(She pauses and smiles softly.)
Nyxly: Truth be told, I actually quite like the part about... the burning oceans.

William: I became a journalist to tell real stories, to report the truth. Your "ends justify the means" excuse makes you just as bad as Lex. You both have no ethical code. I was hoping that you'd wield CatCo's power and influence for good, but instead, your pathological obsession to be number one made you selfish and shortsighted. What's important is what you stand for, what you contribute to make the world a better place. And you, Andrea Rojas, stand for nothing.

(Lex and Nyxly are searching for the Truth Totem in a room full of rare antiques.)
Nyxly:
Why would someone collect all these trophies just to store them where no one can see them?
Lex: It's not about flaunting what you've got. It's about having it and knowing no one else does.

(Nyxly uses the Truth Totem on Lex.)
Lex:
What are you doing?
Nyxly: Making sure of your intent. I can't risk giving my heart to a dishonest fool. But luckily, I have the powers of the Truth Totem, so... Tell me, your poems, did you mean what you wrote?
Lex: Every word. My only desire is to rule by your side while destroying everyone who gets in our way.
Nyxly: And after we've rebuilt the AllStone, you're going to betray me?
Lex: Betray you? Betraying you is... inconceivable. I've spent my whole life believing no one was worthy of me, until you. It's why I came back to find you at this time. I want to help you achieve everything you want and deserve. And I know I can do this for you, because I have. It is my only desire.
(Nyxly releases Lex.)
Lex: Did I pass?
Nyxly: (smiling, in imitation of the Totems) You have performed admirably.

Brainy: Never thought I'd say this, but... I really could use my personality inhibitors. All this happiness is making me quite sad. I can't stop thinking that soon I'll have to leave everyone. Especially you.
Nia: Don't think about that. Right now, you're here with me. See? Do you feel your hand in mine?
Brainy: I do.
Nia: And my head on your shoulder?
Brainy: Yes.
Nia: That's all that matters. Tonight's not the night to be Debbie Downer. We're here to celebrate Alex and Kelly.
Brainy: (sighing)You're right. I do not intend to be this... Debbie with a sad surname. You know, actually, I am grateful... to feel so much love and loss... because then I know... it all truly meant something. And that you'll always be with me, Nia Nal... no matter where I go.

Continuity

William tells the Super Friends that Lex is building a new Lexosuit army  - a fact he learned from Otis Graves, who agreed to go on the record with him.

The VIP suite at Club Rialto is booked that evening for Alex and Kelly's bacelorette party.

Esme reportedly gets into trouble at school.

Andrea publicly publishes Lex Luthor's love poetry and credits William as having broken the story.

William reads Andrea the riot act for using his name on her story, not only for the breach of journalistic ethics but also because now people are laughing at Lex and Nyxly and treating them like a celebrity couple instead of being afraid of them.

Winn chats with Brainiac-5 and tells him that Lex traveled to the future and fell in love with Nyxly.

The Super Friends recover the Dream Totem after tracking the Lexosuits to a location near National City's waterfront.

The Super Friends affirm that the Totems cannot be destroyed and will eventually reform if their physical form is destroyed.

Dreamer says she can use the Dream Totem to try and track Lex and Nyxly while Lena tracks the Lexosuits.

Nyxly still doesn't trust Lex and suspects he may have sabotaged her crystal ball, until it detects the Truth Totem.

Lex confirmst that Nyxly conquered the Fifth Dimension and killed her father before they met in the future.

Esme's trouble at school was losing control of her powers after a mean girl made fun of her chocolate roulade at a school bake sale, saying it looked like an ugly log.

Alex notices an odd rose-shaped tattoo on the back of Esme's neck.

Brainiac-5 talks with one of the variant Brainiac-5's sharing his body and tells him that Winn informed him that the Big Brain powering the Coluan hivemind in the 31st Century has suffered greatly due to the AI plague last mentioned in 323. As such, Brainiac-5 has been asked to return to his own time and merge with the Big Brain to save it. This will cause him, and the other Brainiac-5 doppelgangers, to cease existing.

The other Brainiac-5 says he will try to figure out a way that they can stay in the present, but he doesn't see how it will be possible.

Brainiac-5 does not want to return to the future because of his love of Dreamer and his sense of duty to his friends in this moment. He resolves to stay until the fight with Lex and Nyxly is resolved.

The Truth Totem is an old camera, apparently of some historical importance.

The gauntlet of the Truth Totem requires the wielder to confess all the truths they would rather not admit. In Nyxly's case she has to confess that she's afraid she's too much like her father, that part of her still wants his approval despite his abuse and treachery and that she wants to be close to someone again and not be afraid of her loved ones betraying her.

Kara assures Esme that she used to have trouble controlling her powers when she was young.

Kara suggests that they could find something like a pair of glasses that Esme could use as a focus, like she did. Alex prefers to run some tests to make sure Esme is healthy and not encourage her to hide her powers.

Alex and Kara have a fight because Alex wants to raise her daughter as she sees fit and Kara says she doesn't think Alex understands what it's like to be an alien on Earth struggling to control your powers.

Dreamer has a vision of Brainiac-5 and an hourglass. She immediately concludes that his time is running out, somehow, and that he's hiding something.

When confronted, Brainiac-5 admits that the Legion ordered him to return to the future once Lex and Nyxly were defeated and that he was trying to find the words to tell her.

Dreamer offers to come to the future but Brainiac-5 says she has to stay in the past for the sake of the timeline.

According to Lex, Nyxly develops a sweet tooth in the future and butterscotch sticky buns are her favorite.

Nyxly uses the Truth Totem on Lex and forces him to honestly tell her how he feels. He honestly does want to win her heart and rule the universe with her.

Andrea calls Lena and asks her if she's a bad person. Lena says she isn't, but she has to be careful to not cross the line in trying to do good.

J'onn tells Kara she should back off of telling Alex how to be a parent, because despite her good intentions that isn't her job.

William is revealed to be the one who taught Esme how to make chocolate roulade.

William tells Esme his Aunt Bindu's secret for baking with chocolate - add a pinch of cardamom, a touch of turmeric and a sprinkle of cloves.

Kelly gets a call from the school saying that one of Esme's new classmates is a Tattamite - an alien species with short fuses whose skin can manifest distinctive skin markings, which they use as camouflage. Alex accepts this as an explanation for Esme's tattoo and losing control of her powers more easily than normal.

Lena is able to track Mitch's ship and suggests a raid on it.

Kara goes to the ship in her Kryptonite-proof suit. It barely protects her when Nyxly hits her with the Truth and Hope Totems.

J'onn and Kara are able to claim the Hope and Truth totems just before Mitch's ship self-destructs. This leaves Lex and Nyxly with no totems and no Lexosuit Army.

The Totems are moved to the Fortress of Solitude for safe-keeping.

Esme won her school's baking contest.

Alex and Kelly's babysitter gets the stomach flu, so it looks like Kelly won't be able to go to the party.

William offers to babysit Esme in the Watchtower so the rest of the Super Friends can go to Alex and Kelly's party.

Kara apologizes to Alex for being pushy about Esme. Alex likewise apologizes for reacting so harshly.

Lex, Nyxly and Mitch take refuge in the Dolemites in Italy.

Mitch is confirmed to have survived the ship blowing up.

Nyxly admits she is starting to fall for Lex.

As she says this, her crystal ball begins glowing and reveals the Love Totem.

J'onn encourages Kara to relax, as the tower computers are autoscanning for any sign of Lex or Nyxly and he's running psychic scans subconsciously.

Brainiac-5 and Dreamer agree to enjoy whatever time they have left and not worry about their conflicting destinies.

William notices a proximity alarm in the Watchtower go off and tells Esme to go hide in J'onn's office.

William sets his phone up to record the room.

Lex and Nyxly teleport into the Watchtower.

Nyxly finds where Esme is hiding and convinces her she's a friend of her mothers.

Lex shoots William as retribution for publishing his journal and tells him that he intentionally set up the meeting with Otis, allowed Lena to track his Lexosuits and set it up so that her scanning the Lexosuits activated a Trojan virus that delayed Esme's test results. This prevented Alex from discovering that the Love Totem formed within Esme.

William sends the footage to Andrea just before he dies, with the subject in the e-mail being "Here's your real story."

Andrea watches the video of William's death and Lex confessing to his murder and setting him up.

The Super Friends discover Esme is missing and William is dead.

Location

The Dolemites - Italy

Untelevised Adventures

William details his meeting with Otis Graves, which was teased at the end of 617.

According to Winn, Nyxly and Lex conquered the known universe in the 31st century and ruled as King and Queen until the AllStone began to fail. The Legion of Superheroes attacked in that moment and Nyxly died.

The Fridge Factor

William is killed purely to give the Super Friends angst about relaxing for a night and to add an edge to Esme's abduction.

The Kryptonite Factor

Alex, usually the most observant of the Superfriends, doesn't notice that Esme's rose tattoo matches the design of the Love Totem.

The Bottom Line

Largely satisfying, though surprisingly dark at the end. It's a shame the show couldn't find anything better to do with William before now but at least he gets to go out a hero and shames Andrea one more time in death. It's also odd that he gets all these great moments now when Lena and J'onn barely seem to have any screen time at all. Still, not a bad episode all things considered.

Starman Plays Quest For Glory 4, The Thief Path - Part 10

In which we head out into the forest, play a riddle game with the Leshy and then go on a mission of mercy which takes us to Erana's Garden and the best bit of music in the game.
