One Good Thing And One Bad Thing About Booster Gold #34

BAD THING: Artists Chris Batista and Keith Giffen are no Kevin Maguire. It's not that the artwork is bad, really - it's just that the faces look odd and the details of the faces of the characters rushed. This wouldn't be so bad if it didn't seem like they were trying to imitate Maguire's style at certain points in the comic... and failing miserably.

GOOD THING: That being said, the writing is still top-notch all around. And I welcome any storyline that gives us more Big Barda.

The Final Verdict: Still the Best Book You Probably Aren't Reading.

  1. To be clear, what you're referencing as 'bad art' in the example you're using is Keith Giffen's, not Chris Batista's.
If you look at the credits, you'll note two pencillers, I think. Chris Batista did all the stuff in the middle with the JLI, Keith Giffen did the beginning and the ending that involved Michelle.

  2. No, the expressions in the middle are kinda weird too. Check out the page with Booster asking the priest if he can say "hell" without getting in trouble.
    Still, I've corrected it.

  3. I think I can buy that, at least - last issue Batista was a lot better, this issue seems a bit more flat. It did feel like the art was rushed - hence, probably, why Giffen's on pencil duty here. I'd swear Batista spent a lot more time on Barda than on the others.
... not that there's anything wrong with that.

  7. Okay, that IS an awesome Barda moment, right there.
Is there still a Blue Beetle backup story in Booster Gold these days?

  8. Oh, god, I love Barda. And Scott. And the exchange about how Scott loves death traps, and Barda just kinda goes, long-suffering, "I know."
What I love best about the book right now is that it's hugely entertaining but still bittersweet, because TED. Oh, TED.

  11. Yeah. And I love how Scott's argument for getting her to let him go is basically "Do you really want to leave those two idiots alone in dealing with something that COULD destroy the universe?"
