One Good Thing And One Bad Thing About Green Lantern Corps #43

GOOD THING: It's hard to narrow it down to just one given the sheer number of just plain awesome things that happen in this issue. But if I had to pick the best, I'd have to go with the fact that Guy Gardner is capable of using both a Red Lantern ring and a Green Lantern ring at the same time... and kicking copious amounts of ass with both.

BAD THING: While I fully expected Kyle Rayner to not really be dead dead after last issue, I didn't expect him to be back quite this quickly either. Kinda kills the drama.

The Final Verdict: This is one of DC's stand-out titles right now. The one drawback is that it is entirely tied up in the crossover right now, so it's a hard book to get into. Try some of the older trades - you'll be glad you did.

  1. Guy = WIN. LOVED that bit. Wonder if they'll bring up his alien side after this? He once regrew his heart in a Warrior comic, I think....

  2. IIRC, his alien side was completely "purged" during Green Lantern: Rebirth and Guy was fully human by story's end.

  3. CHOKE ON IT!
Best single issue I've read in a long time.

  4. It's one of the best I've read, yes. Not sure I could honestly call it the best but it is a contender.

  5. Having finally had the time to read this, I have to say that my biggest complaint isn't Kyle being back (although I'll grant wanting it to last a bit longer); my biggest complaint is the schmaltz to get him back. It's not badly written, the whole Soranik-Kyle-One-Heart thing, but I'm not a hopeless romantic, either, so I kinda rolled my eyes and went, "Yeah. Fine. Whatever." What I really wanted, from the second Kyle went down, was Guy bringing him back from sheer force of will. His best friend will not stay dead because Guy doesn't want him dead, damnit, and so Guy would bring him back with full-on Green Lantern badassness. Given, I knew it wouldn't happen that way, but I still kinda hoped.
But it's all okay, because Guy is a perennial badass and got to be awesome anyway. WWGGD? Kick some ASS.

  6. Well, to be fair it still says a lot that Guy did react the way he did to Kyle's death and was STILL able to maintain the presence to control two rings at once - including one that is supposed to turn you into a mindless mad dog killer.
And the Power of Love... yeah, it's cheesy. But a good kind of comic book cheesy. I'm just wondering what effect this will have on Kyle given that he wasn't totally into his love with Soranik. Will her "sharing her heart" with him change that against his will?
    Something to think about.
