Van Wilder is Hal Jordan?

SOURCE: Ryan Reynolds is the 'Green Lantern'

On the one hand, I'm sad Nathan Fillion didn't get it. And I personally think Ryan Reynolds would be a better Kyle Rayner than a Hal Jordan, unless we're going with the "can occasionally crack wise" Geoff Johns Hal Jordan.

On the other hand, given that the alternative was Justin Timberlake, I'm relieved. And the pitiful wailing of all the Marvel fanboys who are now scared that a Deadpool movie will never get made now with Reynolds accepting a bigger role amuses me deeply.

Cry for me Marvel Zombies! Your tears are sweet to me.

  1. He can do both. And I'd like to see Reynolds do a movie with comedic elements that wasn't a giant bag of ass-suck. You can tell he's got some talent but he keeps showcasing it in terrible movies...
And yes I include Waiting in that. Waiting was utter shit...

  2. Nathan Fillion should have had it. That would have been perfect. Right age and everything.
Ah well ... I suspect we will see a pretty brash cracking wise Hal, which is okay by me.
If deadpool doesn't come to pass ... meh ... I'm okay with that. I'm scared that Liefield will get residuals.

  3. Which could mean... self-financed Youngblood movie!

  4. I'm upset because now this means Reynolds can't be Wally.

  5. He'd have been a much better Wally West in my opinion but eh. However interestingly Nate and Rainn Wilson were at the DC Comics together just a coupledays ago.
I figured nate would never get Hal because they seem to go younger with these comic movies in the current go rounds unlike when they'd cast someone like Michael Keaton the Batman movies. It would have been perfect but alas, not for sure. But as for Reynolds, I trust him. Seriously all I can think is 'OH THANK GOD THEY AREN'T DOING THAT JACK BLACK VEHICLE ANYMORE'

  6. Are they even working on a Flash movie right now?

  7. Actually, there's some speculation that they ARE still using the Jack Black comedy script and that's why they were looking at Reynolds.
I'm hoping that's just conjecture, though.
And yeah... I knew Nate was a longshot. But I'm a Firefly fan - I'm used to long odds and mainstream mockery.

  8. This is slightly off topic but since it's Green Lantern related...
I just read Blackest Night #1. I already like it better than the entire Final Crisis. ;)

  9. Well, I suppose not...but still! It's gotta happen sometime.

  10. I thought Fillion and Reynolds were roughly the same age? They were on that show together.
But yeah, if Brandon Routh is any indication, they want younger.

  11. Ditto. Working on my review tonight.

  12. Actually, Geoff Johns has apparently been made adviser on a Flash movie...

  13. Fillion is 38. Reynolds is 32.
And yeah... I consider ourselves lucky we didn't get a Jonas Brother playing Hal.

  14. Huh, could've sworn Reynolds was in his mid-30's. Ah well, we'll see how he does.

  15. Well, six years isn't a huge difference, honestly.
