Those expecting a high-action adventure will be disappointed by Supergirl: Being Super. Those who enjoy author Mariko Tamaki's previous graphic novels, fans of Shojo manga or anyone who appreciates a good coming-of-age story will find this a most engaging take on the origins of Supergirl. The art by Joelle Jones and colorist Kelly Fitzpatrick prove a perfect match to the story, presenting a Kara who looks like a real teenage girl rather than a pin-up. I'll be stunned if this one doesn't make the ALA Great Graphic Novels for Teens list.
